Sift Alternatives and Competitors in 2026

There is no single Sift replacement, because Sift does several jobs. Pick by the job: Riskified or Signifyd to get fraud chargebacks covered, Castle for logins, SEON for identity data at onboarding, Kount or minFraud for payment scores you tune, and Maskbreak (ours) for a free check on the visit itself.

Last reviewed: September 2026. Maskbreak publishes this guide and lists itself first, so read it knowing our bias. Vendor facts come from each vendor's own site, documentation or filings, checked on 24 September 2026; the Sift price range is Vendr's buyer data, not a Sift rate card. “Not documented” means we could not find it in public material, not that the product cannot do it. Prices change, so confirm with the vendor before you buy. Corrections: support@maskbreak.com.

Why look for a Sift alternative?

Sift, called Sift Science until 2019, is a San Francisco fraud platform founded in 2011. Its product line is Payment Protection, Account Defense, the Sift Score API and Expert Services, built on machine-learning models, a Decisioning Engine with Workflows and the Sift Console. By Sift's own count its network sees more than a trillion events a year. Its scores are not bare numbers: each comes with reason codes, and the Score API returns the top 20 risk signals behind a score.

So teams rarely leave because Sift is weak. They leave over fit, and price comes first. Sift quotes every deal: sift.com/pricing returned a 404 when we checked on 24 September 2026, and the only public benchmark is Vendr's buyer data (February 2026, 50 purchases), a median of $150,000 a year with deals from $29,600 to $600,000. Vendr names API call volume, the modules you buy and the contract term as what moves that price.

The rest is scope. Sift carries no chargeback liability, which sends some online stores to guarantee vendors. Other teams want a named answer about the visit itself: a VPN or proxy, with the service named when known, or a fake browser at the signup form. Sift's blog lists IP and proxy intelligence among its account-takeover signals, but its public docs do not describe a separate VPN-operator or fake-browser output.

Which Sift competitor fits the job you use Sift for?

Sift's own round-up of fraud prevention software (published October 2025, updated February 2026) names Forter, Kount, SEON, Signifyd, Accertify, Riskified and Ravelin. They do not all do the same thing, so start from the part of Sift you would miss.

Six Sift alternatives compared

01 Maskbreak Best for a free check on the visit at signup, login or checkout

Maskbreak answers a narrower question than Sift: what the visit is made of. A browser snippet collects two tokens when a form is submitted, and your server sends them to POST /v1/evaluate. The answer is allow, review or block with reason codes, the network (VPN, proxy, Tor, cloud server, with the VPN or proxy service named when known) and the device (automation, emulator, fake browser).

Example response for a scripted login attempt (credential stuffing) from a headless browser on a cloud server:

{
  "decision": "block",
  "risk_score": 70,
  "reasons": ["datacenter_asn", "automation_detected"],
  "network": {
    "vpn": false,
    "proxy": false,
    "datacenter": true,
    "anonymous": false,
    "tor": false,
    "residential": false,
    "service": null
  },
  "device": {
    "antidetect": false,
    "automation": true,
    "tampering_score": 0
  }
}

Automation is a block signal under the default policy. The cloud-server address alone would stay allow, with datacenter_asn still listed, and a VPN alone is flagged for review, not blocked. Send your own account ID with each check and multi_account_device appears when one device has opened several of your accounts, counted inside your account only. It changes nothing until you give it an action on the console's Rules tab.

What Maskbreak is not: a payment or order model, an identity network pooled across customers, a review team, a chargeback guarantee or a mobile SDK. It checks web visits and can sit in front of Sift or any tool below. Server SDKs cover Node, Python and PHP. See Maskbreak vs Sift and the account takeover playbook.

Pricing: Free plan with 10,000 visitor checks a month, no card · paid plans from €29/month (Starter, 50,000) · every signal included on every plan
02 SEON Best for identity data and compliance at onboarding

SEON, founded in Budapest in 2017 and named in Sift's own competitor round-up, publishes the starting price Sift does not. Give it an email address or phone number and its digital footprint reports where that identity is registered (more than 290 platforms for an email and 60 for a phone, by SEON's count in September 2026), plus breaches, domain age and carrier data.

Its device SDK for web, iOS and Android detects residential and mobile proxies from network fingerprints and flags device farms. Beyond fraud it sells AML screening, transaction monitoring and identity verification. How it compares with Sift directly is below; see also Maskbreak vs SEON.

Pricing (seon.io, September 2026): Starter $699/month for 2,500 fraud checks, 10 users, 50 rules · Premium custom · free trial on application
03 Castle Best for logins, account takeover and signup abuse

If the part of Sift you rely on is Account Defense, Castle is the focused version of that job. Castle.js creates a request token in the browser; your server sends it to the Filter API before signup, login or password reset, or to the Risk API once the user is signed in. You get bot, account-takeover and account-abuse scores from 0 to 1, named signals such as residential_proxy_access and multiple_accounts_per_device, and an allow, challenge or deny action from default policies you can tune.

Mobile SDKs cover iOS, Android, Flutter and React Native. Its signal reference names no signal for fake browsers (antidetect browsers, sold to run many browser profiles), though spoofed_device and tamper checks cover part of that ground. It is account-first: if card fraud at checkout is your main loss, look at the payment vendors below. See Maskbreak vs Castle.

Pricing (castle.io, September 2026): Free $0 with $5 of usage, for evaluation · Pro $200/month including $200 of usage, then $0.005 per call · Enterprise from $4,000/month
04 Kount (Equifax) Best for payment scoring you tune yourself

Kount is the closest like-for-like for Sift's Payment Protection. Equifax has owned it since 2021, and kount.com now redirects to equifax.com. Payments Fraud on Kount 360 scores each card-not-present order with an Omniscore from 0.1 to 99.9, against what Equifax's 2026 sheet calls a network of more than 20,000 brands, and your policies accept, block or challenge.

Account Protection covers sign-ups, logins and account changes, and Equifax now also sells Signal Score for Device and for Email as standalone APIs aimed at VPNs, emulators and scripted account farming. Like Sift, Kount offers no chargeback guarantee: it sells prevention alerts and representment instead. See Maskbreak vs Kount and the Kount alternatives guide.

Pricing: not published · enterprise by quote · the Shopify app says “Free to install. Additional charges may apply.”
05 Riskified Best if you want fraud chargebacks covered

Riskified (NYSE: RSKD) sells an outcome rather than a score. It approves or declines each online order, pays the fraud chargebacks on orders it approved and commits to minimum approval rates. Its 2025 annual report says the fee for that Chargeback Guarantee is a risk-adjusted percentage of the order value it approves, set per merchant. No rate is published.

It is not the only guarantee on offer. Signifyd, ClearSale and Wyllo (formerly NoFraud) also back approved orders, each on its own terms, and Forter offers a guarantee as a contract option: see Signifyd alternatives and Maskbreak vs Forter.

Pricing: not published · a share of approved order value, set per merchant · Shopify app free to install, charges may apply
06 MaxMind minFraud Best for published per-query pricing

MaxMind's minFraud is the way off a platform contract with a price list: $0.005 a query for Score, $0.015 for Insights and $0.020 for Factors, pay as you go with no minimums. It scores purchases and account events such as account creation, login and password reset. Insights and Factors add the anonymizer object, which flags VPNs, public and residential proxies and Tor exits and can name the provider, plus email, address and phone checks.

Custom rules set accept, reject or manual review on every tier, and an optional Device Tracking Add-On links devices by token rather than IP. What you give up is Sift's scoring per abuse type for promotions and content, its workflow builder and its GenAI analyst assistant. See Maskbreak vs minFraud.

Pricing (maxmind.com, September 2026): $0.005 to $0.020 per query · no minimums · trial of up to 1,000 queries on request

Sift vs Riskified: tooling or a guarantee?

The two get compared because both screen online orders, but they sell different things. Riskified takes the approve-or-decline call and the fraud loss that follows it. Sift gives your team the scores, reasons and workflows to make the call, and the loss stays yours.

Checked September 2026 Sift Riskified
What you buy Scores with reason codes, a Decisioning Engine and a console An approve or decline decision on each order
A fraudulent order gets through Your chargeback Riskified pays the fraud chargeback on orders it approved
Approval rate Yours to tune with rules and workflows Minimum approval rates committed in the contract
Pricing model Quote only; Vendr median $150,000 a year (February 2026) Risk-adjusted percentage of approved order value, per merchant
Beyond checkout Account takeover, fake accounts, promotion and content abuse Policy Protect (returns abuse), Dispute Resolve, Account Secure (logins)
Company Private, San Francisco, founded 2011 Listed on the NYSE (RSKD), founded 2013

Pick Riskified if you run an online store and want fraud losses turned into a predictable fee. Pick Sift if you have people who will own the risk strategy, or if most of your fraud is not at checkout: a marketplace, a fintech app or a subscription business fighting account takeover and fake signups gets more from Sift's breadth than from an order guarantee. Whichever guarantee you consider, read which chargebacks it covers. Riskified's covers fraud chargebacks; Signifyd's is configurable, from fraud-only protection to a full liability shift.

SEON vs Sift: identity data or a fraud model?

Both score signups, and both explain themselves: SEON's Fraud API returns APPROVE, REVIEW or DECLINE with the rules that fired, Sift a score per abuse type with reason codes. The difference is what sits behind the answer. SEON starts from the identity a user hands you, an email address or phone number expanded into a digital footprint and checked against fraud history shared across SEON's customers, and builds device intelligence and compliance tools around it. Sift starts from behaviour: events from your app, scored by models that also learn from other businesses on its network.

Pick SEON if…
  • Onboarding is where you lose money, and email and phone footprints help you tell real people from invented ones.
  • You also want AML screening, transaction monitoring or identity verification from the same vendor. SEON lists Case Management and AML Compliance under its custom-priced Premium plan.
  • You want a published starting price: Starter is $699 a month for 2,500 fraud checks (September 2026).
  • You work in fintech, payments, lending or betting and gaming, among the first industries SEON lists.
Pick Sift if…
  • Payment fraud and account takeover matter as much as signups, and you want a separate score for each.
  • Your own models or rules need a feed: the Sift Score API returns a score and the top 20 risk signals behind it.
  • Analysts will work cases in a console with workflows and ActivityIQ, Sift's generative-AI research assistant.
  • Promotion or content abuse is part of the problem; both are Sift abuse types.

Looking for a Community Sift alternative?

Then this is the wrong Sift. Community Sift is a content-moderation product for online communities that came to Microsoft with its October 2021 purchase of Two Hat, and communitysift.com now redirects to a Microsoft developer page. Lasso, a competing moderation vendor, wrote in February 2026 that Microsoft had told Community Sift customers their contracts would not be renewed. Microsoft has made no public announcement, so confirm with Microsoft before planning around it. None of the fraud tools on this page moderates chat. The fraud company Sift does still score content abuse as one of its five abuse types, and two more names collide: justsift.com sells an org-chart tool, and the SANS SIFT Workstation is a forensics kit.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the main Sift competitors?

Sift itself names seven in its October 2025 guide to fraud prevention software (updated February 2026): Forter, Kount, SEON, Signifyd, Accertify, Riskified and Ravelin. Which one replaces Sift depends on the job you use it for: Riskified, Signifyd or ClearSale if you want fraud chargebacks on approved orders covered; Kount, Accertify or MaxMind minFraud for payment scoring your own team tunes; Castle for logins and account takeover; SEON for identity data at onboarding; Maskbreak for a free check on the visit itself.

What is the difference between Sift and Riskified?

Riskified sells a guaranteed outcome for online orders; Sift sells the tooling to make the decision yourself. When Riskified approves an order that turns out to be fraud, it pays the fraud chargeback, and it commits to minimum approval rates; its fee is a risk-adjusted share of the order value it approves, set per merchant. When Sift scores an order, your rules make the call and a chargeback stays your loss. Sift's scoring also reaches beyond checkout to account takeover, fake accounts, promotion and content abuse. Neither publishes a rate card.

SEON vs Sift: which one should I choose?

Choose SEON when onboarding is the problem: it expands an email address or phone number into a digital footprint, checks it against fraud history shared across its customers, adds device intelligence and a Scoring Engine that mixes rules with machine learning, and also sells AML screening and identity verification. Its Starter plan is published at $699 a month for 2,500 fraud checks (September 2026). Choose Sift when payments, account takeover, promotion and content abuse all need scoring, by models that also learn from other businesses on its network, with a console for analysts. Sift is quote-only.

How much does Sift cost?

Sift does not publish a price, a free tier or a self-serve trial, and sift.com/pricing returned a 404 on 24 September 2026. The only public benchmark is Vendr's buyer data from February 2026: across 50 purchases, a median of $150,000 a year, with deals from $29,600 to $600,000. Among the alternatives, SEON, Castle and MaxMind minFraud publish prices, and Castle has a free plan for evaluation. Maskbreak's Free plan includes 10,000 visitor checks a month with no credit card; paid plans start at €29 a month.

Is Sift Science the same company as Sift?

Yes. Sift Science changed its name to Sift in January 2019, and Sift Science, Inc. is still the company's legal name. It is the San Francisco fraud platform founded in 2011 that this guide compares, so a Sift Science alternative is a Sift alternative. Community Sift is a different product from a different company.

Is Community Sift the same as Sift?

No. Community Sift is a content-moderation product for online communities that came to Microsoft with its October 2021 purchase of Two Hat; communitysift.com now redirects to Microsoft. Sift, formerly Sift Science, is the San Francisco fraud platform this guide compares. A competing moderation vendor reported in February 2026 that Microsoft is winding Community Sift down, which Microsoft has not announced. The tools on this page are fraud tools, not chat moderation.
