2026 Alternatives Guide

Best minFraud Alternatives in 2026

MaxMind’s minFraud, launched in 2004 by the company behind GeoIP, scores payments and account events such as signups and logins. It is billed per query, from $0.005 on Score to $0.020 on Factors (September 2026 prices), with no commitment and no minimums. Teams usually look elsewhere for one of two reasons: the per-query bill grows once every signup and login is scored, not only orders, or the abuse they see lives in the browser itself, where minFraud’s documentation describes no fake-browser (antidetect) or automation detection. This guide compares four options, including where each one is the wrong choice.

About this guide. Last reviewed: September 2026. Maskbreak publishes this page and appears first in the list, so read it as a vendor’s view; nobody benchmarked these products for it. Facts and prices for MaxMind, IPQS, SEON and Fingerprint come from each vendor’s own pricing pages and documentation, checked on 24 September 2026. Where we say something is “not documented”, the vendor’s public material is silent on it, which is not proof it is missing. Prices move and volume discounts are negotiated, so confirm with the vendor before you budget. Spotted a mistake? Email support@maskbreak.com.

Why look for a minFraud alternative?

minFraud scores an event you describe: account creation, login, password reset, payout change, purchase and seven more event types. You send the IP address plus whatever else you hold (email, card, billing and shipping addresses, phone, order details, custom inputs and, if you run MaxMind’s Device Tracking Add-On, a device tracking token), and it returns a risk score that your custom rules turn into accept, reject or manual review. Score ($0.005) returns the overall and IP risk scores; Insights ($0.015) adds the VPN and proxy flags with the provider’s name, the email, address and phone checks, and a Device ID; Factors ($0.020) adds the reasons behind the score. That is a strong fit for checkout, where you hold the card and can report chargebacks back.

Two things push teams to look around. The first is cost at volume: every scored event is one query, so screening 100,000 signups and logins a month on Insights costs $1,500 at list price (our arithmetic, before any volume discount). The second is where the abuse happens. MaxMind actively probes residential proxy networks and feeds that into its IP risk score, and it flags disposable email addresses, so a proxy and a throwaway inbox are covered. What its documentation does not describe is spotting a disguised or scripted browser: a fake (antidetect) browser, a headless or automated browser, or an emulator on an ordinary home connection. Teams whose abuse looks like that, at signup or login before any card appears, are the ones who go shopping.

What to look for in a replacement

Four minFraud alternatives, honestly compared

01 Maskbreak Best for checking the visitor’s browser at signup and login, free to start

Maskbreak checks the visit rather than the transaction. A script on your page collects two browser tokens; your server sends them to POST /v1/evaluate and gets back allow, review or block with reasons such as proxy_detected, antidetect_browser or automation_detected. On the network side it covers VPNs (a VPN alone is flagged for review, not blocked, with the service named when known), proxies including residential ones, Tor and cloud servers; on the device side, fake browsers, automation, emulators and virtual machines. Send an accountId and it tells you when one device is behind several of your accounts; that linking is hashed and never crosses customers. Its Free plan includes 10,000 visitor checks a month with no card (paid plans from €29 a month), and test tokens such as test_proxy let CI exercise each decision. What it does not do: it never sees a card, address or phone, has no chargeback feedback loop and no manual-review team, and its geolocation is a country code, so a shop scoring orders will usually keep minFraud at checkout. Pricing: Free plan with 10,000 visitor checks a month, no card · paid plans from €29/month (Starter, 50,000) · every signal included on every plan
02 IPQS (IPQualityScore) Best for a broad toolkit: IP reputation plus email & phone validation

IPQS is the closest like-for-like swap: an IP-reputation-first fraud API with a 0–100 fraud_score, plus standalone email, phone and URL validation, dark-web leak lookups and transaction scoring. Its free plan (1,000 lookups a month, 35 a day) and published monthly tiers make it easy to try without a sales call. Read the plan table before you commit: residential proxy detection is listed from SMB+ (“as low as” $999 a month), and device fingerprinting, which IPQS says catches antidetect browsers such as Multi-Login and Linken Sphere, is Enterprise-only. Its documented proxy response has no field that names the VPN or proxy operator. The IPQS alternatives guide has the longer comparison.

Pricing: free plan, 1,000 lookups/month · paid from “as low as” $99/month · ipqualityscore.com/plans, September 2026
03 SEON Best for identity-side fraud at onboarding

SEON works from the identity side. It turns an email address or phone number into a digital footprint (online accounts registered to it, domain age, carrier data) and adds device intelligence, IP analysis and a rules-plus-machine-learning Scoring Engine that answers APPROVE, REVIEW or DECLINE. It also sells AML screening, transaction monitoring and, since January 2026, identity verification. If minFraud’s email and phone checks are the part you lean on hardest, SEON goes much further on that axis. Cost is the catch: Starter lists at $699 a month for 2,500 fraud checks, Premium is custom-priced, both plans start with a sales call, and the free trial is by application.

Pricing: Starter $699/month for 2,500 fraud checks · no free tier, trial on application · seon.io/pricing, September 2026
04 Fingerprint Best for a durable visitor identifier as a building block

Fingerprint (fingerprint.com) is identification-first: its web, iOS and Android agents produce a durable visitor ID, and its Smart Signals add VPN, proxy, Tor, bot, tampering and antidetect, incognito and virtual-machine detection, plus a Suspect Score and a Rules Engine in beta. It does not score cards, addresses or orders, so it complements minFraud rather than replacing it: keep minFraud for orders and add device identity at signup and login. Your code decides what to do with the visitor ID and signals; the beta Rules Engine can return an allow or block action for it to apply. Fingerprint’s own pages disagree on which Smart Signals the Free plan includes, so check the plan before you rely on it.

Pricing: Free, up to 1,000 web/iOS API calls/month · Pro Plus from $99/month for 20,000 calls, then $4 per 1,000 · fingerprint.com/pricing, September 2026

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best free alternative to minFraud?

Maskbreak's Free plan includes 10,000 visitor checks a month, every signal included, no card; paid plans start at €29 a month. IPQS has a free plan of 1,000 lookups a month, and Fingerprint's Free plan covers up to 1,000 web and iOS API calls a month. minFraud itself has no ongoing free tier: MaxMind offers a free trial of up to 1,000 queries on request, and its free GeoLite data (country, city and ASN) has no fraud scoring and no proxy data.

How much does MaxMind minFraud cost?

As of September 2026 MaxMind lists minFraud Score at $0.005 per query, Insights at $0.015 and Factors at $0.020, paid from prepaid credit with no commitment and no minimums; volume discounts go through its sales team. The VPN and proxy flags with the provider's name, and the email, address and phone checks, come back on Insights and Factors, not on Score. At list price, 100,000 Insights queries cost $1,500.

Why do teams look for a minFraud alternative?

Cost and coverage. Every scored event is one query, so scoring every signup and login as well as every order multiplies the bill. And minFraud works from the data you send it (IP, email, card, addresses, phone and, with its add-on, a device tracking token); its documentation does not describe detecting fake (antidetect) browsers, automation or emulators. That gap matters most at signup and login, before any card is entered.

Does minFraud detect VPNs and residential proxies?

Yes, on Insights and Factors. Its anonymizer data flags VPNs, public and residential proxies, hosting providers and Tor exit nodes and can name the provider, and since July 2026 a residential object adds a confidence score. Since August 2026 MaxMind's probe-based residential proxy data also feeds the real-time IP risk score. The Score tier returns the IP risk score, not the individual flags.

Is minFraud still the right choice for anything?

Yes. It scores purchases and account events in real time with card, address, phone and email checks, custom rules on every tier, risk reasons on the higher tiers, and a Report Transactions API that feeds chargebacks back, all billed per query with no commitment. For order scoring at checkout it is hard to replace, and Maskbreak does not try to: it never sees payment data. The alternatives here matter when you need fake-browser and automation checks, or a free tier for screening signups and logins.

Can I evaluate these alternatives without talking to sales?

Maskbreak, IPQS and Fingerprint all have self-serve signup with a free allowance. MaxMind sells minFraud credit online and offers a free trial of up to 1,000 queries on request. SEON is the exception: both of its plans start with a sales call, Starter lists at $699 a month (September 2026), and its free trial is by application.
